The big picture 🚀

Enzymes are super-cool molecular machines that speed up reactions. Think of them like a catalyst! But where are they made? And where do they do their magic? Let's dive in!

Setting the scene - intracellular vs. extracellular enzymes 🎨

  • Intracellular enzymes work inside the cell, like a chef cooking in a kitchen.
  • Extracellular enzymes (or exoenzymes) work outside the cell, like a chef grilling in a backyard.

Where do enzymes come from? 🎈

Both are born from ribosomes. But there's a twist!

  • Exoenzymes: Made by ribosomes attached to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Imagine the ER as a special kitchen counter where these outdoor chefs are trained.
  • Intracellular enzymes: Made by free ribosomes in the cytoplasm, kind of like chefs trained in the heart of the kitchen.
