The Need for Energy ⚡

  • Every living thing, be it a plant, animal, or microbe, needs energy. Why? Just like how cars need fuel to move, our cells need energy to function.
  • This energy currency is called ATP (think of it as "cell cash").

Examples 🌍

  • Think of ATP as the battery in your smartphone. Without it, nothing runs!

What Uses Energy in Cells? 🤔

  • Building Molecules: Crafting important large molecules like DNA (our genetic instructions), RNA (the messenger) & proteins (the workers).
  • The Great Pump: Sending molecules or ions across the cell’s borders (membranes) using active transport.
  • Moving the Inner Bits: Within cells, structures move. In muscle cells, there's a dance of protein fibres causing muscles to flex 💪.
  • Keeping Warm: Birds and mammals need energy to keep cozy and maintain body temperature. It's like using energy to run a heater in winter!

Examples 🌍

  • Think of a factory. It needs electricity to operate machines (synthesizing molecules), run conveyor belts (moving structures), and keep the lights and AC on (maintaining temperature). ATP is like that electricity!
