Understanding Twins - Fraternal vs. Identical 👫

Types of Twins

  • Dizygotic Twins (Fraternal)
    • Two eggs + Two sperms = Two different babies
    • 50% genetic similarity, just like regular siblings
    • 🛍️ Real-world example: Think of them as two items from the same store, but different products!
  • Monozygotic Twins (Identical)
    • One egg + One sperm = One embryo ➡️ splits ➡️ Two identical babies
    • 100% genetic similarity
    • 🐱 Real-world example: If fraternal twins are two different cat breeds, identical twins are clone kittens!

Fun Fact

You've got a 1 in 250 shot at having identical twins during a pregnancy! 🎲
