Backstory 📖

  • Over time, scientists proposed multiple models for the structure of membranes.
  • One champion emerged! Presenting... the Fluid Mosaic Model! It's so cool and backed up by heaps of evidence that no one's thinking of replacing it any time soon.

The main characters 🎭

  • Phospholipids: They're the superheroes that form a double layer (bilayer). Think of them like slices of bread in a sandwich!

  • Proteins

    • Peripheral Proteins: These guys hang out on the inner or outer surface. They're like the fun toppings you spread on the bread.
    • Integral Proteins: These daredevils embed themselves right into the phospholipid bilayer. Some even peek out from one or both sides, waving at the world. Imagine sticking large slices of tomato inside our sandwich; that's what these guys do!

Mosaic what now? 🧩

The proteins spread around look like tiles in a mosaic artwork. That's artsy, isn’t it?
