- 🌱 What? Sigmoid growth: A specific pattern of population growth that happens in stages.
- Where? Natural ecosystems.
Model Organisms

🍀 Duckweed
- 🏞️ Habitat: Ponds and lakes.
- 🌿 Characteristics: A photosynthetic, stemless water plant. Each tiny floating plant has potentially a single root underneath.
- Reproduction: Asexual. New plants (fronds) grow and separate from the parent.
- 🥤 How to Grow: Place on the surface of water inside beakers or cups.

🍞 Yeast
- Habitat: Surface of fruits and other sugar-rich locations.
- Characteristics: Saprotrophic fungus, ovoid cells.
- Reproduction: Asexual. Produces extra cells by budding (thanks to mitosis!).
- 🍻 Fun Fact: This little organism helps us get bread and alcohol!
Experiment Set-Up
- Start with a small population of the organism.
- Ensure tons of resources are available for growth.
- Ensure no other organisms interfere.
- Monitor the numbers either by
- 📈 Datalogging (techy way).
- 🧮 Regular counts (old school but reliable).
