Hey there, future Business Magnate! Let’s dive into some cool concepts you'll want to know to dominate the boardroom (or, you know, pass your IBDP Business Management exam ๐Ÿ˜‰).

๐Ÿ’ผ Budget 101

  • Definition: A budget is like a business's wishlist! It's a financial game plan detailing what the business hopes to earn (revenue) and spend (expenditure) in a future timeframe.
  • Real-world Example: Think of it like your monthly pocket money. You plan how much you'll save (revenue) and how much you'll spend on that cool new video game (expenditure).

๐ŸŽฏ Cost & profit centres

  • Cost Centres: These are like the piggy banks of a business where only costs are kept track of. Costs of different departments are stored here.

Real-world Example: Imagine you and your buddies are baking cookies. The cost of ingredients (like chocolate chips, flour) are noted in different 'pots'. Each 'pot' can be seen as a cost centre.

  • Profit Centres: These centres are cooler! They keep track of both costs (like the cost centres) AND revenues. It helps to figure out how profitable different parts of the business are.

Real-world Example: Continuing with the cookie example, if you started selling those cookies, you'd note down how much you earned (revenues) from selling and subtract the ingredient costs. The profit? That’s what the profit centre will show.
