What the heck is a dipole? 🤔

Imagine you're at a party (yes, chemists party too). Some people just can't keep their cool and are always ON (like your super energetic friend), while others can suddenly become energetic but usually chill out (like that friend who gets super hyped when their song plays). These "permanent energy" people are like permanent dipoles, while the "sometimes energetic" folks are like temporary dipoles.

  • Permanent Dipoles = Always on! ⚡
  • Temporary Dipoles = On and off. 🎉

Dipole-dipole attraction 💑

Just like opposites attract in real life (think about magnets), molecules with permanent dipoles are drawn towards each other. This attraction is called the dipole-dipole force.
