Texts often discuss &ldquo;silk roads,&rdquo; and the understanding of these contexts varies widely, from a real geographical location to online websites. The different perceptions of silk roads are influenced by our own individual contexts and the way we approach information. Example: A historian might view the Silk Road as a critical trading route in history, while a programmer might see it as a metaphor for interconnected networks.

The tone of a text and the way it characterizes elements can drastically affect how we perceive the information. For instance, a text can portray the Silk Road as an adventurous journey or a dangerous path.

The IB Language and Literature course focuses on the concept of knowledge beyond memorizing details. It delves into an engagement with knowing and truth. For example, a science textbook&#39;s knowledge might be about specific theories, while a novel&#39;s knowledge could be about life lessons and human experiences.

	<li>Mimetic works: They aim to reflect reality as it is, like a documentary. It&#39;s like taking a picture of a busy city street; it represents life just as it is.</li>
	<li>Dogmatic works: These focus on human behaviors and social norms. Think of a manners guidebook telling us how to behave at a dinner party.</li>
	<li>Persuasive works: These aim to convince or change beliefs. An example would be a political speech trying to sway voters.</li>
	<li>Aesthetic works: They focus on the sensory or aesthetic experience. Like abstract art, it&#39;s more about how it makes you feel than what it&#39;s trying to say.</li>
	<li>Humanity/Higher humanity works: They explore what it means to be human. This could be a novel discussing the human condition or a philosophical text probing the nature of existence.</li>
	<li>Propositional Theory of Literary Truth: This theory suggests that literature presents general thematic statements about our world and human condition. Consider a dystopian novel warning about the potential dangers of technology.</li>
	<li>Metaphysical works: These address &#39;greater human truths&#39; beyond the scope of traditional knowing. For instance, a poem contemplating the meaning of life and death.</li>
	<li>Cultural works: They portray the cultural heritage and values of a society. An example could be a folk song telling a story that reflects a community&#39;s beliefs.</li>
	<li>Artistic works: They focus on the value and uniqueness of the medium itself. For example, a poem that uses complex structure and rhyme to explore the nature of poetry.</li>
	<li>Postmodern works: These question the possibility of absolute knowledge and truth. A postmodern novel might challenge the very notion of a linear narrative or fixed meaning.</li>

These categories help us analyze how different texts provide or question knowledge and truth, enhancing our understanding of the world around us.
