Hey there, future literary mastermind! 📚 Welcome to the fascinating realm of Intertextuality. Ready to dive in? Let's do this!

Intertextuality - the storytelling web

Intertextuality is like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of literature! You know how each Marvel movie is a separate story, but they're all intertwined, feeding off and adding to each other? That's intertextuality in a nutshell. When we're studying texts, we're looking not only at the 'standalone' story, but also at how it connects with, and has been influenced by, other texts. 🕸️

Understanding vs. telling stories

Imagine you're a detective 🕵️‍♂️ investigating a mysterious event. You can't just rely on one person's story; you've got to gather and understand everyone's perspectives to figure out what really happened. That's a big part of our course: digging deep to understand how stories are told and interpreted. It’s not just about 'what' is being said, but 'how' it's being said, and from 'whose' perspective.

Stories are dynamic, not static

Ever played the game 'Chinese Whispers'? 🗣️ Just like in the game, when a story is passed on, it can change in production (the way it's told) or reception (the way it's understood). This is a key concept of our course.
