Humor break: Remember when your teacher told you that you're unique? Well, they weren't lying. This is exactly what Charles Darwin said about species too. (But it's not like he knew you personally!)

The darwinian insight

In 1859, Charles Darwin sparked a revolutionary idea with his book "On the Origin of Species". He proposed the theory of evolution by natural selection.

Real-World Example: Imagine Darwin as an avid gardener sowing the seeds of knowledge. The seeds (his theory) have grown into a forest of understanding about the biodiversity we see today.

Adapt or not, that's the question

According to Darwin, species vary in their characteristics. The ones best suited for their environment are more likely to survive - the Fitness Factor!

Real-World Example: Picture the cactus, adapted to survive in harsh desert conditions. The lack of leaves reduces water loss, making it fitter than a maple tree would be in the same environment.
