Food insecurity refers to a situation where people are unable to access enough nutritious food to lead a healthy life. Let's unravel the solutions for this global issue, and investigate how these ideas are implemented in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, we'll also look into the problem of food wastage, because, let's be honest, you wouldn't want to throw away your favorite pizza, would you? 🍕

🌱Short-term solutions for food insecurity

Increase production & reduce set-aside: Imagine if you started getting extra pocket money because your favorite action figures were in high demand. You'd likely buy more, right? Similarly, high market prices can boost food production.

Food aid: Think of this like the school lunch program, but on a larger scale. Organizations like the World Food Programme help feed the most vulnerable. Yet, there's a bigger crowd that still goes to bed hungry, about 700 million people around the globe.

Seeds & fertilizer: Just as you need textbooks to prepare for next year's classes, farmers need seeds and fertilizer to plant future crops. But, imagine if you had to burn your textbooks for warmth in winter? A harsh reality for many farmers forced to use their future crop seeds for immediate survival.

Export bans: Let's say you're the only one selling ice-creams in a hot summer. You'd likely hike the price, right? Similarly, banning food exports can drive prices up and make the market unpredictable.

🌳Medium-term solutions for food insecurity

Free trade: Removing trade restrictions and farm subsidies can help farmers in poorer nations. But, the trade-off might be higher food prices in these regions, as producers might be more enticed by wealthier Western markets.

Biofuels: Remember how superheroes sometimes become villains? Similar is the case with plant-derived fuels. Initially seen as a remedy for global warming, biofuels now face criticism for utilizing a huge chunk of crops that could be used for food.
