Setting the Scene: The Ancient Digs

  • Palestine: A historical region in the Middle East. (🔍 Check the cool map on page 9.)

  • Timeline: Jews lived here since approximately 1500 BC. (That's like, waaay before smartphones!)

Enter the Romans 🎶

Dun-Dun-Dunnnn!

  • When?: By the time our main man, Jesus, was around - first century AD.

  • The Bosses: The Romans were the big bosses of Palestine.

Revolts & Rebellion 🔥

Not all heroes wear capes!

  • Round 1 (AD 70) and Round 2 (AD 135): Jews rebelled against the Roman Empire. (Imagine it like two epic movie sequels!)

  • Roman's Revenge: Sadly, the Roman soldiers didn’t take it lightly:

    • Destroyed the Jewish temple. (😢 That was their favorite hangout!)

    • Wrecked the city of Jerusalem. (Oof!)

    • Expelled most of the Jews. (Talk about a dramatic breakup.)

Scattering of the Stars 🌍

The Ancient Digs

Post-Roman-breakup, Jews became the ultimate travelers! Over 200 years, they:

  • Fled to neighboring countries.

  • Found homes in almost every corner of the Roman Empire, especially in southern Europe.
