Japanese Encroachment 1931-45: The Struggle for Recognition 🍱

  • What? Japanese occupation of China (1931-1941) stunted China's call for independent state status.
  • So What? China asked the USA & League of Nations for help, but crickets 🦗... until:
    • 1941: USA enters WWII! 👉 China starts getting global nods.
    • 1945: Japan loses WWII. Big win for China & Jiang Jieshi 🎉.
  • Fun Fact: China hit the "big leagues" by becoming a 5-member UN Security Council post-WWII! 🌍✌️
  • Extra Bite: USA still saw Jiang's GMD as the "real" China even after it was booted from the mainland in 1949.

China's International Ride Under Mao 1949-76: From Suspicion to Handshakes 🚀

  • What? Mao quickly spread Communist control in mainland China.
  • So What? West was like 😱, thinking China wanted global Communist expansion.
    • 1950: Surprise! China jumps into the Korean War.
    • Cold vibes with USA 🥶 due to PRC non-recognition & other reasons like China's nukes. 💣
  • Plot Twist: Everyone thought USSR & China would be BFFs, but... nope. Ideological spats & Mao's big personality created a Cold War soap opera!
  • Drama Alert: 1969 - Sino-Soviet relations hit rock bottom. Near nuclear confrontation! ☢️
  • Rollercoaster Ride: Mao was all over the place.
    • Cultural Revolution: China is super aggressive 🥊.
    • Later years: Mao chills out, eases up on West, wants to sideline the USSR.
    • Big Highlight: Nixon visits Beijing 🤝. USA finally recognizes the PRC.
  • Closing Scene: Mao dies in 1976. China still committed to international class struggle (but maybe with a bit less fire 🔥).
