Education & Curriculum 📚

  • Goals: Mussolini wanted a pro-Fascist, athletic, strong, and disciplined youth. It's like wanting every kid to be the captain of the school football team but for Fascism!
  • 1923 School Reforms
    • Initially conservative.
    • Rigorous exams in elite schools.
  • Fascism in Curriculum
    • Radical Fascists wanted a strong Fascist education program.
    • Teachers viewed as anti-Fascist were dismissed in 1925.
    • By 1929, teachers had to pledge loyalty to Mussolini, called the "Duce."
  • Fascist Teachers Association
    • Started in 1931.
    • Membership became mandatory in 1937.
  • Cult of Personality
    • Schools celebrated Mussolini's achievements.
    • His portrait was hung next to the King's.
    • Emphasis on blind obedience: like following your favorite influencer without questioning!

  • Numbers: Had 7 million members by 1937!
  • Activities
    • Boys: Prepared for war - military and sports training, parades.
    • Girls: Prepared for domestic roles - sewing, cooking, childcare.
  • University Level - Gruppi Universitari Fascisti (GUF)
    • For older students, aimed to create a Fascist elite.
    • Organized Littoriali Games for competition in sports, arts, and music.
