Introduction 🎈

The Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, set up a government called the Soviet of People’s Commissars or "Sovnarkom." But here's the kicker! In November 1917, outside the city of Petrograd, they were not the most popular gang in town. They needed to step up their game to secure power!

Winning Hearts with Initial Decrees 🚜

  • Land Decree (Oct 1917): Think of it as a gift card for peasants! They could now take land from the rich gentry and share it. Kind of like splitting a pizza with friends!
  • Decree on Workers’ Control (Nov 1917): Factories handed to workers. Imagine students running a school! Workers now made decisions on production, finance, and even got to oversee the management.
  • Declaration on the Rights of the People of Russia (Nov 1917): This was like giving every group in a school project the right to voice their opinion. National minorities in Russia now had the right to determine their own fate.

Playing Smart with the Army 💂‍♂️

Generals and officers? Nope, they weren't fans of the Bolsheviks. But the ordinary soldiers? That's a different story! The big move? Lenin signed a peace treaty with the Germans called the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Imagine ending a schoolyard fight by giving away half of your lunch. Russia gave away a third of its land! After this, the army just kind of... fell apart. So, the generals couldn’t count on them to fight the Bolsheviks.
