🚀 Quick recap 🚀

  • From our last chapter: Hitler's foreign policy until 1937 - was it a clear plan or just taking chances?
  • Spoiler: By 1938, Germany's foreign moves became bold & aggressive.

Setting the board 🎲

  • After the Abyssinia and Rhineland events, diplomatic circles got shaken up.
  • The shake-up gave Hitler the confidence to dream big: Enter Anschluss.

🤓 What's Anschluss? Imagine wanting to combine your chocolate and vanilla ice creams because both taste awesome. For Hitler, this meant uniting Austria (filled with German speakers) and Germany.

🍦 Real-world example: Think about two separate tubs of Ben & Jerry's ice cream merging to become one mega flavor-packed tub.

🔍 Why anschluss 🔍

  • Ethnic Germans in Austria: It's like calling your cousins for a sleepover. They speak the same language!
  • Strategic Move: If Hitler could get Austria, he could then easily turn his gaze to Czechoslovakia & Eastern Europe.

💃 The italian dance 💃

  • Mussolini (Italy's leader) was previously like: "No way, Hitler!"
  • But after a deal with Hitler over Abyssinia, Mussolini began singing: "Sure, go ahead with the Anschluss."
