The twin context MZ twins 👯‍♀️

  • MZ (Monozygotic) twins have the same DNA sequence. Like, 100% match!
  • Even with the same DNA, they can have phenotypic differences (like how they look or behave).
  • Old-school thinking: Differences? Must be because of different environments.
  • Plot twist!: Maybe not just environments. Enter stage left: Epigenetics.

🌍 Real-world example: Imagine two identical iPhones. One has lots of apps, photos, and has been dropped a few times (😅). The other is brand new. Same model but different conditions and usage. Similarly, MZ twins might have the same blueprint, but life experiences can affect them differently!

Kaminsky et al’s drama-filled study (2008) 🧪📚

  • Studied: Two 49-year-old female MZ twins.
    • Career paths:
      • Twin A: A daring war journalist (Let’s call her “Wonder Woman”).
      • Twin B: An office manager in a law firm (Meet “Law Lady”).
    • Lifestyles:
      • Wonder Woman: Traveled to war zones, saw war horrors, married late, drank occasionally (sometimes too much).
      • Law Lady: Settled young, had kids, drank occasionally (never too much).
  • Though miles apart, the twins stayed emotionally connected (Aww ❤️).

Personality insights 🧠🔍

  • Wonder Woman: Pretty balanced personality.
  • Law Lady: Got more anxious and stressed over little things. Also, she didn’t like taking risks as much.

🎢 Real-world example: Imagine going on a roller coaster. Wonder Woman goes on the ride, has fun, and wants to go again. Law Lady, however, might avoid the ride because of the risk or if she goes, might stress out after one round.
