Newton's first law of motion 🚀

  • AKA: Law of Inertia
  • The Gist: Things like to keep doing what they're doing unless some force tells them otherwise.
  • Official Statement: Objects stay at rest or keep moving in a straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
  • 🌍 Real World Example: Your cereal bowl stays on the table unless your mischievous cat pushes it off! (That darn force!)

Newton's second law of motion 🚀

  • AKA: Law of Acceleration
  • The Gist: How an object speeds up or slows down depends on the force applied to it and its mass.
  • Official Statement: Force = mass x acceleration (F = ma).
  • For the Pros: Force can also be represented as �=�(�−�)�F=mt(v−u)​ where �v is final velocity, �u is initial velocity, and �t is time.
  • 🛹 Real World Example: Pushing a skateboard makes it move. Pushing a car with the same force won't move it as much because it's heavier.

  • AKA: Law of Action-Reaction
  • The Gist: For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction.
  • Official Statement: When one object applies a force to a second object, the second object exerts a force of equal magnitude in the opposite direction on the first object.
  • 🚴‍♂️ Real World Example: When you push off the ground on a bike, the ground pushes back, propelling you forward.
