Torque AKA moments of force ๐ŸŒ€

  • Definition: When a force makes an object free to spin about an axis. BUT this is only if the force isn't acting directly on the axis. It’s like opening a door by pushing its handle!
  • Measured in: Newton-meters (Nm).
  • Torque has:
    • Size (Magnitude) ๐Ÿ“
    • Direction ๐Ÿงญ

๐Ÿš€ Real-world example: Think of a seesaw in a playground. If a kid pushes one end (not at the center), it’ll spin around its central support! That’s torque.

Importance of torque in human body ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

  • Many parts of our body spin about axes. This is especially true in our synovial joints (like our knees and elbows).
  • Muscle arrangements in relation to joints = Determines torque around each joint.

๐Ÿ– Fun fact: This torque concept is tied to levers. Think of our bones as those rigid rods spinning around axes/joints.
