Skeletal system basics ๐ŸŒŸ

  • Components: Bones, cartilage, ligaments, and joints.
  • Fun Fact: It's about 20% of your body weight! So, if you weighed 50kg, your skeleton would be about 10kg! ๐ŸŽ’
  • Main Role: Determines body shape & size (but hey, food ๐Ÿ”, workouts ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ, and your killer posture also play a part!).

The 206 bone breakdown ๐ŸŽณ

  • Axial Skeleton (The Core Crew ๐Ÿ—ฟ)
    • Contains 80 bones.
    • Includes: skull (think of it as your built-in helmet), ribs (your body's natural armor), sternum (the central shield), and vertebral column (your spine, the backbone of all your dance moves!)
  • Appendicular Skeleton (The Limb Gang ๐Ÿคธ‍โ™‚๏ธ)
    • Has 126 bones.
    • Parts
      • Pectoral (Shoulder) Girdle: Made up of scapula (the wings in your back) and clavicle (collarbone, where you might wear your fave necklace).
      • Upper Extremity: Humerus (your upper arm's main stick), ulna & radius (forearm buddies), carpal bones (wrist stuff), metacarpals (hand base), and phalanges (your waving fingers!).
      • Pelvic (Hip) Girdle: The connector of your torso and legs.
      • Lower Extremity: Femur (the big thigh bone), tibia & fibula (the duo in your lower leg), tarsal bones (ankle squad), metatarsals (foot base), and phalanges (your toe-tapping toes!).

Did you know? Your shoulder and hip girdles connect your limbs to your core skeleton. It's like how a bridge connects two pieces of land! ๐ŸŒ‰
