Table of content

Camp David Agreement (1978) ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

  • Location: Camp David (Think of it like a summer camp for politicians!)

  • Goal: Peace between Israel ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ & Egypt ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Main Points

  • ๐Ÿšถ Israeli Walkout: Israel said "Bye-Bye" to Sinai. ๐ŸŒต

  • ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Sinai Back to Egypt: Just like when you borrow something and give it back, Sinai was to return to Egypt in 3 years. Time to reunite!

  • ๐Ÿšข Sailing Fun!: Israel gets a free pass! They could sail freely through the Suez Canal & the Straits of Tiran. (Psst! Want to know where these places are? ๐Ÿ“ Check page 56 map).

Treaty of Washington (1979) ๐Ÿ“œ

  • When?: 6 months post Camp David. Imagine waiting half a year to get your online delivery!

  • Main Point: Both countries finally swiped right! ๐Ÿ˜ They recognised each other's right to peace within secure boundaries.

Reactions

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Israel: Feeling good! They traded land (like a swap deal in a game) for peace & made the biggest Arab military power, Egypt, neutral. Score!

  • ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Egyptians: Mixed feels here.

    • Happy Majority: Proud of their leader, Sadat, for keeping Egypt's interests a top priority. Felt like they'd done a lot for Arab buddies, and now it was time for some self-love.

    • Angry Minority: Some, mainly the religious bunch, didn't like the new friendship with Israel. They felt betrayed, like when your BFF joins the opposing football team.

  • ๐ŸŒ Global Reaction: Round of applause! ๐Ÿ‘ People loved this big step in Arab-Israeli ties.

  • ๐ŸŒ Arab World: Not thrilled. They thought Sadat broke the team's unity. Like when a band member goes solo and leaves the band behind. Result? Egypt got the cold shoulder. Arab League even packed its bags from Cairo to Tunisia.

Plot Twist ๐Ÿšจ

Sadat's End: Sadat, unfortunately, didn't get to enjoy peace for long. He was assassinated in 1981 by Islamic extremists from the army during a parade. Think of it as a tragic twist in a movie. ๐Ÿ˜ข
