🎉 Fun Fact! 🎉 Your body has a hidden network, almost like a secret underground system, that deals with excess fluid! It's called the lymphatic system.

Tissue fluid - what is it? 🌊

  • When capillaries release fluid to bathe and nourish body cells, this is called tissue fluid.
  • Imagine the tissue fluid as the 'VIP juice' for your cells, giving them everything they need.

🤔 Now, Here's a Brain-Teaser: Out of 20 dm3 (that's 20 liters!) of this tissue fluid produced daily, 17 dm3 makes its way back to the capillaries. But what about the remaining 3 dm3?

🎈 Potential Problem: If the 3 dm3 stayed behind, our tissues would puff up like a balloon. This swelling is known as oedema.

  • Think of it like an over-watered plant. Too much water, and it gets all swollen and squishy!

Superhero solution - enter the lymphatic system 🌟

  • This system is like the superhero sidekick our body didn't know it needed.
  • It has a network of narrow, blind-ended vessels called lymphatic vessels.
    • They're like the tiny alleyways of a city, hidden but essential.
    • Their walls are super permeable, letting tissue fluid enter easily.
  • Once inside, our tissue fluid gets a new identity, called lymph.
