Key Concept - Evaluating Data 🔍

  • Evaluation: An appraisal that assesses the strengths and limitations of evidence.
  • Example: Data about COVID-19 from the World Health Organization (WHO). Questions to ponder
    • How did countries differ in reducing COVID-19 infections?
    • Which countries were best at preventing COVID-19 deaths?
    • Did a country's wealth affect its success in fighting COVID-19?

Math Time How to Work with Percentages 🔢

  • Finding Percentages

    • Formula percentage\(= \frac {first\ number}{second\ number} × 100\)
    • Real World Example: If 5 students out of a class of 20 got A's, the percentage of students who got A's is \(\frac {5}{20}×100\).
  • Calculating Percentage Change

    • Formula: ercentage change\(= \frac {final\ number - initial\ number}{initial\ number} ×100\)
    • Real World Example: If you had $10 and now have $15, the percentage increase is \(\frac {15−10}{10}×100\).
  • Finding Percentage Difference

    • Formula (using number A as reference)
    • percentage difference=number A - number Bnumber Apercentage difference\(= \frac {number A\ - number B}{number A}\)
    • Remember!: The result can differ if you use number B as reference.
    • Real World Example: If one store sells a game for $50 and another for $40, the percentage difference, using the first store as a reference, is \(\frac {50-50}{50}×100\).
