Estimating Population Size Using Random Sampling 🐾

Think about trying to count all the ants in your garden. Impossible, right? That's why scientists estimate!

What's a Population? 👥

  • Definition: Total number of individuals of a species in a given area.
  • Like trying to count every person in a city – tough, right?

Why Not Just Count Everyone? 🕵️

  • Camouflage: Animals are experts at hide and seek! Many use camouflage to avoid being seen.
  • On The Move: Even if spotted, animals move around.
  • Huge Numbers & Area: Some populations are vast and spread over massive areas.

Fun Fact: Imagine counting every fish in the ocean. That's gonna take a while!

Estimating ≠ Guessing 🧪

  • In science, an estimate is based on EVIDENCE.
  • Instead of guessing, scientists use sampling.
