What's an Energy Pyramid? 🔼

Think of a bar chart you'd see in math class, but cooler! It shows how much energy gets gobbled up at each level in a food chain over a year.

How's it Measured?📏

Unit: kilojoules per metre squared per year (kJm−2 yr−1). Basically, it's like measuring how many chocolate bars (energy) are eaten in a soccer field (unit area) over a year. Yummy!

How Should it Look? 🎨

  • Stepped Bars: It’s more like stairs, not like the Pyramids in Egypt.
  • Lowest Bar: It's for the producers. Producers are the cool plants making their own food. It's like they have their own personal kitchen!
  • Labels: Go from "producer" (plants 🌱), to "primary consumer" (like bunnies 🐇 eating the plants), and then "secondary consumer" (maybe eagles 🦅 that fancy bunny for lunch).
  • Proportional Length: The length of each bar should represent the energy amount. Think of it like a battery: the longer the bar, the more energy stored!
