Key Points 🎯

Sex-Linked Genetic Disorders: These are disorders you inherit based on your sex chromosomes (X & Y). Spoiler alert: Most of these disorders are due to recessive alleles of genes!

 

X and Y Chromosomes: X has the spotlight here; Y is like the shy guy in the corner. That’s because the X chromosome carries many more genes than the Y chromosome.

 

Males Vs. Females: Males are more likely to have these disorders because they only have one X chromosome. If that X has the bad gene, oops, they're affected. Females have two X chromosomes, so they have a backup!

 

Haemophilia: Our celeb disorder for today. It's primarily a guy issue and messes with blood clotting due to a lack or faulty form of a protein called Factor VIII.

 

Treatment: Don’t lose hope; it’s treatable by infusing Factor VIII from donor blood!

 

Frequency: In boys, it’s like 1 in 10,000. In girls, it’s astronomically rare—like finding a unicorn! 🦄
