What is Heterolytic Fission? 🚀

Heterolytic fission is like that moment when two friends share a chocolate bar, but one grabs both pieces. When a covalent bond breaks, and one atom hogs both electrons, it's heterolytic fission!

Key Facts 🔑

  • Unsymmetrical Split: One atom gets both electrons, while the other gets none.
  • Result: Formation of a cation (electron deficit, feels left out 🙁) and an anion (extra electron, feeling greedy 🤑).

Drawing it Out 🎨

Imagine drawing a slide, where electrons slide from one atom to another! This slide is represented by a double-barbed curly arrow.
