Equality vs. equity- a party analogy! ๐ŸŽ‰

Think of a party where everyone gets the same slice of cake, no matter their appetite. That's equality! Now, imagine a party where slices are distributed based on how hungry people are. That's equity!

 Equality

  • Definition: Treating everyone the same way, providing the same resources and opportunities.
  • Real-world example: Imagine a country with flat-tax, where everyone pays the same percentage of their income in taxes, regardless of how much they earn. Sounds fair? Well, let's dive deeper!

Equity

  • Definition: Tailoring treatment to ensure everyone has a fair shot at success, which might mean providing more resources to some.
  • Real-world example: Consider a progressive tax system where those who earn more, pay more, to ensure that society's resources are more evenly distributed.

Different perspectives of equity ๐ŸŽญ

Different societies view equity differently. In one culture, equity might mean that those who work harder should earn more, while in another, it might mean a more even distribution of wealth.

Example

  • USA: Tends to value individual effort and rewards.
  • Sweden: Focuses more on social welfare and minimizing income gaps.
