Trade Unions

  • 🎭 The Great Deception: Nazis pretended to accept trade unions by celebrating International Workers' Day.
  • 😲 Surprise!: Nazis quickly occupied union offices, seized funds, and arrested leaders.
  • 🔄 Replacing & Controlling: German Labour Front (DAF) replaced independent trade unions, but it was more of a controlling instrument than representation.
  • 🎯 Real-world example: Imagine if school clubs are taken over by the school board, and they control what activities are allowed, which members can join, and how funds are used.

Civil Service

  • 🤝 Friendly Start: Many in the civil service saw Nazis as a return to the old ways and supported them.
  • 🔄 Switcheroo: Nazis had their own plans. They replaced many officials with their own and had Nazi officers to oversee.
  • 💼 Loyalty Oath: At a massive gathering, 10,000 lawyers pledged loyalty to Hitler.
  • 🎯 Real-world example: It's like when a new boss comes into a company and brings in their own team, pushing out those who might oppose their methods.

Church & Nazi Relations

  • 🕊️ Peace Offering: Nazis tried winning over the churches by suggesting they could co-exist.
  • 🤝 The Concordat: Agreement between the papacy and Nazis. Nazis promised freedom and rights to the Catholic Church; in return, the Church would stay out of politics.
  • 🙄 Broken Promises: Nazis had no intention to honor the agreement but used it to pacify the Church temporarily.
  • 🎯 Real-world example: It's like making a promise to a friend to gain their trust, but having no intention of keeping it.
