🚀 Quick Glance

  • Breakdown of Grand Alliance after WWII
  • Truman Doctrine - The USA's responsibility to support threatened democracies.
  • Marshall Plan - Financial help to rebuild European economies.

🔍 i - Breakdown of grand alliance

  • After WWII, the Grand Alliance crumbled.
  • USA and USSR disagreements became evident.

🔍 ii - Truman's big moment

  • Date to Remember: 12 March 1947.
  • Truman told Congress the USA should support countries resisting subjugation (e.g., by armed minorities or external pressures).
  • Fun Fact: This was a huge shift! US was traditionally isolationist (kept to itself).

🌿 Real-world Example: Imagine suddenly joining a group project after always working alone. That's the USA diving into global politics.

🔍 iii - Why the truman doctrine?

  • Two hotspots: Turkey & Greece.
  • After WWII, Britain put the Greek monarchy back. However, Communist rebels didn't like that.
  • UK was broke (£3000 million in debt) after the war and told the USA they couldn't help Greece anymore.
  • USA thought: "No way we're letting Communists take Greece!"
  • Solution: Truman Doctrine! Send US help & military advisers to Greece.
  • USSR: "👀 The USA is just trying to expand its power."

🌿 Real-world Example: It's like seeing someone unable to buy lunch, so you offer them money. But others might think you're just trying to show off your wealth.
