Germany's division - 🇩🇪

  • The blockade's failure led to Germany's division.
  • West's move? Creation of Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), Sept 1949.
    • Konrad Adenauer: First chancellor 🌟
  • Soviet's answer? German Democratic Republic (GDR) in their zone.

Real-world Example: Imagine two siblings fighting over a toy and instead of sharing, they each take a part of it. The divided toy is now like divided Germany!

Berlin keeps its four-power control - 🗺️

  • Berlin, a unique city, remains divided.
  • Still under four-power occupation but within GDR.
  • This situation was like a suspense movie; more on this in chapter 8!

NATO's birth - 💂

  • Soviet threat + Czech Coup = West's trust in Stalin drops!
  • Add in Berlin airlift, and US realizes they need to commit defense to Europe.
  • Result? North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) formed, April 1949.
  • Members: USA, Canada, and many European nations.
