🔥 Fun Intro: Ever wonder why you feel warm when you rub your hands together? Well, hop in! We're diving into the exciting world of thermodynamics and energy conversion. 🔥

Understanding systems & surroundings 🌍

  • System: Think of it as the main character of our story! It's what we're studying or focusing on.
    • E.g. Imagine a hot cup of cocoa on a winter day – that's your system!
  • Surroundings: Everything else around the system. Using our cocoa example, this could be the air in the room.
  • Universe: System + Surroundings. So, hot cocoa + the entire room = your universe. Mind-blown, right?

👉 Key Point: The system can interact with its surroundings, mainly by transferring energy.

Types of systems 🛑

  • Closed System: Picture a sealed bag of chips. The number of chips (or gas particles) inside doesn't change, but energy (like heat) can still move in or out.
  • Isolated System: It's like a vault! Nothing goes in or out, not matter, not energy. Super secretive!
