Hey, future psychologist! Let's dive into the intriguing world of Sigmund Freud and his game-changing idea: the Unconscious.

Who's freud, & why should i care?

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), a name you've probably heard a thousand times, was the "big brain" behind psychoanalysis. He's like the Sherlock Holmes of psychology!

Revolutionized psychology (Think of it like introducing a cool, new smartphone into the world of old school flip phones)

His most significant idea - "the unconscious"

Freud believed that the conscious mind - the stuff you're aware of - is just a small slice of your psychological pizza.

The Unconscious: the hidden part of your mind holding the majority of your experiences and behaviors. Think about it like your mind's backstage where all the preparation for the grand play happens, unseen.

Our conscious mind controls primitive drives when they're a threat. For instance, you might be crushin' hard on someone, but your conscious mind stops you from acting on it due to society's rules. You know, no love letters in class, please!

Leaking of the unconscious

Freud suggested that these super-strong unconscious desires will eventually sneak out like a mischievous puppy.

They could pop up in dreams, affection you can't explain, or random fits of anger. Ever dreamt about flying on a unicorn? Yeah, it might be your unconscious trying to say something!
