Factors influencing heat tolerance

Heat intolerance can affect your ability to exercise in hot environments. These are the major factors that can make you more susceptible to heat intolerance:

  • Lack of Acclimatization: Not being used to the hot conditions can make your body struggle to cope with the heat.
  • Low Fitness: Being less fit makes it harder to handle the heat.
  • Large Body Mass: Bigger bodies generate more heat and have a harder time cooling down.
  • Dehydration: Not having enough fluids in your body can make you more vulnerable to heat-related issues.
  • Age: Both the elderly and pre-pubertal children are more sensitive to heat stress.
