Background Glimpse ๐ŸŒŸ

In the 20th century, Arabs were like, "We want to be free from European rulers!" Think of it as students wanting freedom from homework. Some of these Arab countries, like Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine, were bossed around by the Turks. Egypt? It was more like Britain's sidekick.

What's Arab Nationalism? ๐ŸŒˆ

  • Language & Religion: Imagine if all the people who loved the same music or sport felt a unique bond. For Arabs, it was the Arabic language and the Islam religion that pulled them together. Though a tiny fraction were like, "We're Arabs, but not Muslims."

  • Political Unity: More than just language and religion, they also had this BIG dream. A dream to have a single state for all Arabs. One place where they could all chill together, politically speaking.

First World War & Arab Nationalism ๐ŸŒช

The WW1 era was like the high school drama phase for Arab Nationalism. Why? Because of

  • The Arab Revolt of 1916: Think of this as the big sports match of the year. An Arab team took on the Turks, and this helped boost Arab pride and nationalism.

  • Post-War European Control: After the match, European powers were like, "Let’s put these Arabs under mandates." So, places like Iraq, Syria, and Palestine got 'managed' by Britain and France.

1930s - Peak Arab Nationalism! ๐Ÿ“ˆ

  • Main Trigger: The increasing Jewish move to Palestine. Imagine if a rival school suddenly started moving into your school ground. Not cool, right? That's how many Arabs felt about this.

  • Unity Point: Opposing Zionism became the major friendship bracelet for Arabs. It's like everyone agreeing pineapple doesn't belong on pizza.

  • Important Event Alert! There was the Arab Rebellion in 1936, which further fueled Arab national spirit.
