Fun fact!🌈

Did you know that many of the products we use daily, like fuels and plastics, are made from hydrocarbons? From the clothes you wear to the car you drive, hydrocarbons are everywhere!

Saturated hydrocarbons - the 'single bond dancers'🕺

  • All carbon-carbon (C-C) bonds are SINGLE. No double dates here!
  • They're part of the alkane family.
  • 🎈 Pop Example! Methane (CH4) - It's the gas that some cows release when they burp! It's also a major component of natural gas.

Unsaturated hydrocarbons - the 'complicated relationship status'💔

  • They have AT LEAST one double or triple C-C bond.
  • Alkenes = Hydrocarbons with double C-C bonds.
  • 🍟 Fryin' Example! Ethene (H2C=CH2) - This guy is used to make plastics, like the ones in your sandwich bags.
