Consequences of global warming

Sea Level Rise: Owing to global warming, sea levels are predicted to increase. This can cause floods in low-lying regions like the Maldives and Kiribati. Imagine it like your bathtub overflowing when you forgot to turn off the tap!

More Storms: Think of the planet as a boiling pot. The more it heats, the more "storms" or bubbles you get. The same happens with our atmosphere. More energy means more storms.

Agricultural Shifts: Changes in climate patterns will affect agriculture. Take the USA, for example, its grain belt may shrink, leading to less production. On the flip side, Canada might become the new "breadbasket" as its growing season could extend and become more productive.

Less Rainfall: Places like southern Europe, the USA, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS, a group of countries that were once part of the Soviet Union) might turn into "drought zones" due to less rainfall.

Wildlife Extinction: Our animal friends are in trouble too! It's estimated that up to 40% of wildlife species may become extinct because of climate changes.

Uncertainty in predictions

Predicting the future isn't easy. Just like trying to predict what will happen next in your favorite TV show, scientists have different ideas about how temperatures may change and how that will affect our world. There might even be some plot twists - like some areas getting colder if the Gulf Stream (a warm ocean current) shuts down.

Impact on hydrosphere

Rising Sea Levels: Sea level rise doesn't just affect islands. Countries like the Netherlands, Egypt, and Bangladesh could experience floods, possibly leading to mass migration, affecting up to 200 million people. It's like the movie "Waterworld" coming to life!

Melting Glaciers: Glaciers melting could result in floods over a large area - about 4 million km² of land - affecting 5% of the world's population. It's like a giant ice cube melting and spilling over your kitchen counter!
