What's post-revisionist?

  • Think of it as a middle-ground-ish approach. 🤷
  • Doesn't say USA 🇺🇸 or USSR 🇷🇺 is 100% to blame.
  • Kinda like blaming both siblings when a vase breaks. Nobody's innocent!

Meet the guru - john lewis gaddis

  • Big cheese 🧀 of the Post-revisionist gang.
  • By 1983, he was like, “Hey, more folks are seeing it my way!”

Cold war - why did it even start? 🤔

  • External Stuff
    • After WWII, Europe's like a knocked-out boxer 🥊.
    • Both US and USSR end up face-to-face in this messed up situation.
  • Inside Stories
    • USSR's internal drama: Security concerns 🛡️, ideologies 🧠, rebuilding after WWII 🏗️, and (let's not forget) Stalin's mood swings.
    • US's side: Their love for freedom 🗽, fear of Communism (like fearing broccoli 🥦), thinking they're all powerful 💪 (thanks to economy & nukes).
    • Both sides wanted peace ☮️ but, well, things just got lost in translation.

Blurred lines & misperceptions

Imagine thinking your neighbor's puppy 🐶 is a wolf 🐺!

  • Gaddis & Walter LaFeber agree that the US & USSR totally misunderstood each other.
  • More like a dance of confusion: "You make a move. I react. You react to my reaction.” 🕺💃
