🧠 Main Theme: Neuroplasticity - The Shape-shifting Brain!

i Neuroplasticity basics 🌟

  • 🧠 Definition: The brain's ability to reshape itself.
  • 📖 Fun Fact: Your brain reshapes itself when you learn something new. So, every time you watch a new cat video, your brain's doing a little dance of change!

ii Juggling & your brain 🌟

🤹‍♂️ The Juggle Study by Draganski et al. (2004)

  • Setup: People split into two groups - Jugglers & Non-Jugglers. Both had zero juggling experience.
  • Results: After learning to juggle, the jugglers' brains had more grey matter in the mid-temporal area (responsible for movement). The more they practiced, the more the brain changed! 🎪
  • Real-World Example: Imagine your brain's grey matter is like building muscle at the gym. Juggle more (or workout more), and that muscle (or brain region) grows!

iii Studying medicine & brain gymnastics 🌟

Draganski et al. (2006) Exam Study

  • Setup: Medical students preparing for exams.
  • Results: Increase in grey matter in the parietal cortex (lasts long) and the posterior hippocampus (grows even post-exam).
  • Fun Analogy: Your brain is like a balloon. Study for an exam, and the balloon expands in specific areas. Stop juggling, and it deflates a bit—but not entirely!
