  • What is it? Brain plasticity, or neuroplasticity, refers to the brain's ability to adapt and change throughout life.
  • The Old Belief: Many believed that the brain was “fixed” and that psychological functions had their designated spots in the brain.
  • Reality Check: The brain is like moldable plastic! It can reshape and reorganize itself based on environmental demands.

๐ŸŒ Real-world Analogy: Think of your brain like a city with many roads. If a main road gets blocked, the city finds alternate routes to reach the destination. Similarly, the brain can develop new connections and routes if an old one is damaged or faces new challenges.

  • What is it? It's the idea that we can use other senses to make up for a lost one.
  • Cool Fact: Ever heard of “seeing with your brain, not your eyes”? This is what Paul Bach-y-Rita, a genius neuroscientist, believed.

Real-world example the "seeing" chair ๐ŸŒ

Bach-y-Rita developed a unique chair

  • A camera behind the chair scans the surroundings.
  • The camera transforms images into electrical signals.
  • These signals are sent to 400 vibrating stimulators on the chair.
  • A blind person sitting on the chair feels these vibrations on their back.
  • Over time, they can recognize visual stimuli (like objects, faces, and shadows) from these vibrations. Their brain translates tactile feedback into visual images!
