Introduction ๐ŸŽˆ

Dive into the core of data - central tendency! Think of it as the heartbeat of your data set.

Three measures of central tendency ๐Ÿฅ‡

  • Mean
  • Median
  • Mod

i Mean (the average joe) ๐Ÿ“

  • What? Sum of all scores divided by the number of scores.
  • Example: If the scores were 5, 8, and 10, the mean is (5+8+10)/3 = 7.67.
  • โš ๏ธ Warning! The mean can get tricked! Extreme values (outliers) can change the mean drastically. Think of a seesaw: one very heavy person on one end can tilt the whole thing!
  • ๐Ÿค” When to be cautious: If your data has wild values, like one person scoring 1000 in a class of 10s and 20s.

ii Median (middle maddy) ๐Ÿ”

  • What? The exact middle value when data is sorted in order.
  • Example: In the values: 3, 5, 7, 12...40, 56, the middle falls between the seventh and eighth values. The average of 21 and 23 = 22.
  • ๐Ÿ™Œ Great for: When your data has super highs or super lows (those sneaky outliers) that might make the mean unreliable.
