🎉 Fun Topic Alert: Ever thought that a dash of aftershave or perfume could turn you into a magnet for romance? Let's dive deep into the mysterious world of pheromones!

The "smelly" experiment cutler, friedmann, & mccoy (1998) 🧪

  • Goal: Investigate if adding synthesized male pheromones to aftershave increases a man's "romantic" game.
  • The Lab Rats (a.k.a Participants)
    • 38 men, aged 25-42, healthy, regular shavers, and have decent flirting skills.
    • Fun fact: They had to be "neither unusually handsome nor unattractive."
  • How it Worked
    • The guys got split into two groups randomly (even the researchers didn’t know who got what!)
    • Both groups used their own aftershave. But here’s the twist: one group had the mysterious pheromone added to their aftershave.
    • For 8 weeks, they tracked their romantic activities—everything from smooches to dates.
  • Results: The pheromone guys had a lot more luck! Especially in activities where the lady's willingness played a big part. BUT, no changes in formal dates and solo activities (ahem, masturbation).
