Understanding Obesity ๐Ÿ”

  • Definition: Excess body fat that endangers health.
  • How to Measure? Use the BMI (Body Mass Index)!
    • Formula: Weight (kg) ÷ Height^2 (m^2)
    • Categories
      • Overweight: BMI ≥ 25 kg·m^2
      • Obese: BMI ≥ 30 kg·m^2
  • Real-world example: Ever seen a muscled bodybuilder or rugby player? They might have high BMI because of muscles, not fat!

ssessing Body Fat ๐Ÿ”

  • Fancy Techy Methods
    • DXA: Cool X-ray tech. But uh-oh! Tiny radiation exposure.
    • MRI & CT: Very detailed but take time and can be expensive.
  • Simple Measure: Waist circumference! (Men: ≥102 cm, Women: ≥88 cm)
  • Real-world example: Imagine trying to measure the fat of a football team using MRI. It'd be like trying to fit elephants into a mini-cooper. Better use simpler methods for large groups!
