Main Ideas ๐Ÿš€

  • Improving Performance on an Individual Basis
  • Self-efficacy vs. Self-esteem
  • Measurement Methods in Sports Psychology

1๏ธโƒฃ Improving Performance on an Individual Basis

  • Self-efficacy = Expectation of one's own performance capabilities.

    • ๐Ÿ“Œ Example: Thinking you can slam dunk after practicing for months.
  • Golden Nugget ๐Ÿ’ก: "If you think you can do it or think you can’t do it, you’re right." - Henry Ford

    • Meaning: Believing in yourself has a strong influence on performance. Even if Henry Ford’s quote sounds extreme, its essence is spot-on!
  • But wait, there’s more! Social Learning Theory (SLT) not only supports this idea but also shows us how we can make personal, meaningful changes in our lives.

2๏ธโƒฃ Self-efficacy vs. Self-esteem

  • Self-efficacy:

    • Your belief about what you can achieve in a specific setting.
    • ๐Ÿ“Œ Example: Believing you can score a penalty in soccer.
  • Self-esteem:

    • How you globally evaluate your self-worth.
    • ๐Ÿ“Œ Example: Feeling you're an awesome person overall (irrespective of that missed penalty).
