1985: A significant year for Israel in Lebanon. Why? The Israelis withdrew their troops from most parts of Lebanon. They did keep some in the south though.

Quick Dance with the PLO 🕺

  • Remember the PLO? That's the Palestine Liberation Organization.

  • After they left Beirut (capital of Lebanon), Israel was like, "Cool! Our turn to leave...well, mostly."

Hide and Seek 🕵️

Problem: The Israelis couldn't be sure they'd sent all the Palestinian armed forces packing. Imagine a mega game of hide and seek in those crowded refugee camps. That’s where the guerrillas could be hiding!

Making Friends... Or Not 😤

  • Israel's activity in Lebanon wasn’t exactly a friendship-building exercise.

  • Made a lot of Lebanese, especially Muslim folks in the south, pretty mad.

  • Some of these annoyed people even joined Hizbollah, which wasn't exactly a fan club for Israel.
