China's Unexpected Gains Under Deng 🐉
- Opportunities knocked! - China didn't plan it, but got strategic advantages under Deng.
- 🇷🇺 Russian Federation (took over from USSR in 1991) pulled out from the Pacific Rim. Bye bye naval base at Vladivostok!
- 🇺🇸 USA also peaced out, not keeping its naval base in the Philippines.
- 🇯🇵 Japan? Their post-war fleet was like a tadpole in a sea full of sharks - so, not a competition!
- Result? China reigned supreme over a huge chunk of the western Pacific. 🌊
Spratly Islands Drama: 🌴
- No international interference? China thought, "Let's get the Spratly Islands!"
- 🇨🇳 China flexed its muscles 💪: Sank two Vietnamese ships and scared others with nuclear submarines.
- Beating Vietnam was like winning a school rivalry game for China.

China's Fear:
- Opening to the world ➡️ Minority groups might get some bold ideas.
- 🙏 Religion = catalyst for wanting independence, especially in western provinces.

- Took control of Tibet, Xinjiang, Guangzhou to establish dominance.
